Ajnara Integrity protests 'unwarranted' hike in CAM charges

Ghaziabad: Residents of Ajnara Integrity, a residential condominium in Raj Nagar Extension, staged a protest demonstration on Sunday against an 'unannounced' hike in the existing common area maintenance (CAM) charge by Ajnara India Limited, the developer of the society.

The residents claimed that the CAM charges have been raised at a rate of 10 paise per square foot increasing to Rs 1.7 per square foot from Rs 1.6 per square foot.

The protest was headed by Nitin Tyagi, president of apartment owner's association (AOA) of the society.

Demanding an immediate rollback of the hike, the residents asked for a refund of the surplus amount charged from them. They had submitted their demands to the maintenance staff of the society.

The fact that the charges were raised without even getting an approval of the AOA infuriated the residents. The AOA conceded that they were intimated about the hike. But since they were informed about it on the phone, they did not take it seriously.

"On December 27, I received a call from the maintenance management regarding the hike in the CAM charges. They told me that a hike of 10 paise in CAM had been decided. I asked them to send me a proposal so that I could discuss it with other board members.

“Next day, when one of our board members went to recharge his CAM account, he noticed an anomaly in the bill. Later, it came to light that the hike had been effected," recounted Nitin Tyagi.
