In an effort to promote greenery in Dwarka, about 30 residents of the sub-city, including children and environmentalists, planted saplings of various plants at the neighbourhood park behind New Kanchanjunga Apartments in Sector 23, on Friday. The drive included neem, jamun and peepal saplings.
The event was organised by New Kanchanjunga society and Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi, a social organisation.
CL Paul, president of the society, said, “We made an effort to increase greenery in our surroundings. We not only planted the saplings, but also tried to make the children of our society aware of the importance of plants and trees.”
According to DC Mathur, secretary of SDKS and a resident of New Kanchanjunga, “SDKS started its annual plantation programme with this event at New Kanchanjunga Apartments. We will conduct more such programmes. Besides planting, looking after grown trees and their pruning will also be done across the sub-city.”
The programme began with a speech by PB Mishra, general secretary of SDKS and a resident of Chitrakoot Apartments, Sector 22, in which he gave a brief account of the tree-planting drive being carried out by SDKS. He said that the SDKS programme for this season will be completed by September.
Ramesh Matiyala, the newly elected councillor of the area, was the chief guest at the event. He planted saplings with the residents, shared his thoughts on promoting greenery and assured the corporation’s support in the direction. Speaking about the management of waste, he said six trucks were responsible for lifting garbage at present and that three more have been sanctioned.
SS Mann, vice-president of SDKS and a member of the managing committee of Sadbhavna Apartments in Sector 22, said, “The event was successful and SDMC staff were very supportive. Along with the planting of saplings, iron tree-guards were also erected. Various societies also donated trees. Sadbhavna Apartments donated six neem trees. We are doing our bit to save the greenery of the sub-city and involve the community as much as we can.”TAGS: New KanchanJunga Apartments / Sector 23 / Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi / DC Mathur / Ramesh Matiyala / Chitrakoot Apartments / PB Mishra / Sadbhavna Apartments / SS Mann
