Noida: A four-feet-deep manhole is lying open without its iron cast cover for the past several days at Sector 137 metro station's parking area. In spite of several complaints, no action has been taken yet.

The passersby fear that if the cover was not put back immediately it could lead to a fatal accident during night as area is extremely dark after sunset.

Talking to CitySpidey, Ranjan Shukla, a resident of Sector 137, said, “What better example do we need of 'chalta hai attitude' (negligent attitude) of the authority. We (Indians) always wait for something fatal to happen before taking an action.”

Our reporter spoke to one of the staff from the metro station who said that after the metro closes, the parking is occupied by daily-wage labourers to sleep. He said that there was a possibility that the labourers must have stolen the iron cast cover and sold it in the market.

When asked about the new cover, he ignored the question with a smile.

The complaint about the same was also raised on Twitter on January 5 by supertech137.noida, an account operated by few active residents. CEO Noida Authority Ritu Maheshwari, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Noida Progressive Community Federation were tagged in the tweet.

They had tweeted, "A Mainhole without it's cover since last many days. This amply illustrates the culture of "Chalta Hai" attitude. It's indeed a serious negligence by NMRC at 137 Metro Stn Parking site that may lead to fatal incident /occurrence.(sic)”
