Buying a new house is sure a worthwhile investment. But would you like to live in an empty house with with walls, doors and windows? No. For the transition to home, your dear house needs to be well furnished to your requirement and taste. Hence, after buying the house, you need to invest on the furniture. 

Furniture enhances elegance of your your home and gives it a classy look. Any wooden piece is a centre piece. Quality wood furniture lasts a long time and is passed down through multiple generations. 

If not maintained properly, even the high quality wood furniture can get cracks and scratches. Hence, it is important to take care of it. 

Here are some of the tips to help your furniture last long. 

1. Avoid Keeping Hot Food

Keeping hot food directly on wooden tables can damage and cause rings on it. Therefore, always use coasters when keeping keeping hot food. Use tablecloth or placemats to help your dining table last long. Various designs of tableclothes and placemats are available in markets which will not only protect your wooden table but also give a beautiful look to it. 

2. Warm liquid
Use a soft cotton cloth dipped in lukewarm water for wiping and dusting the outer surface of the furniture. This type of cleaning should only be done on sunny days. 

3. Paste wax
If you want to retain that shine on your furniture, apply a thin layer of a good quality soft paste wax. Leave it for five minutes and buff lightly with a soft brush or cloth. Wait for 30-60 minutes before brushing it away. You furniture will get a beautiful shine.

4. Avoid direct sunlight
Make sure that you don't keep your furniture under direct sunlight. Sunlight, heat and other environmental factors can damage your fine wood. It speeds up fading causing the wood to dry out and shrink. To protect the furniture from direct sunlight, cover it with a cloth or plastic cover. 

5. Shoe polish for scratch

Worried because of crack in your furniture? We have a solution. For such quick-fix touch-up, rub a shoe polish or permanent marker pens on scratches and chips to make them appear less visible on the furniture

6. Remove Tough Stains

A stain spoils the look of your furniture. If your furniture gets a stain, be sure to quickly clean it as the longer you take to remove the stain, the difficult it becomes to remove it. 

If white rings appear due to wet glass, make a paste of equal amounts of white toothpaste and baking soda and rub it on the stain. Then, wipe off the furniture and buff with a dry cloth.

If dark spots appear from water damage, try gently blotting the stain with a cloth soaked in vinegar.

Apply mayonnaise on an area with crayon marks. Wait for a couple of minutes before rubbing clean with a damp cloth and buffing with a dry cloth.
