Noida: Punjabi Welfare Association, a community based Noida's residents association is gearing up to organise a gala event to celebrate the festival of Lohri on Saturday evening.

According to organisers, they have identified a ground facing the temple in Sector 39 as venue for celebration.

To make it a grand affair, they have invited Balvinder Kumar, former IAS officer and member of Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority, Mahesh Sharma, MP of Gautam Budh Nagar and Ravi Kant Mishra, Chairman of Janshakti Seva Samiti as guests for the event.

The harvest festival of Lohri is celebrated with great enthusiasm by people from Sikh community. They make a Lohri at the venue in which all participants come to take rounds of the Lohri. They also wear traditional dresses and present folk dance to make the celebration memorable.

Lohri is not only about reaping the fruits of labour, it also acknowledges the elemental forces, mainly fire. The fire is supposed to eliminate sadness and renew happiness in one's life. Thus, it is a favourable time to take a breather from farming work and enjoy the rich crop of harvest.
