Greater Noida: Sleuths of Ecotech-III police station arrested four men allegedly involved in cases of car and mobile theft in the district on late Saturday night. They have recovered two pistols from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team barricaded 130-meter road opposite Victoryone Amara society in sector 16 on Saturday. When they saw the four men travelling in an Ola cab, they intercepted the vehicle and seized two pistols, four live cartridges, a knife, four mobile phones and a Lenovo tablet from them, station house office Ecotech-III Anita Chauhan narrated.
The four accused – Rinku, Safi, Anil and Shubham, all resident of Gautam Budh Nagar — initially used to snatch mobiles phones at busy places in the district. Later, they started indulging in carjacking. The modus operandi they employed was to book a cab on Ola app, take the driver to a secluded place, tie him down and flee with the car.
The accused have been named in an FIR for the same modus operandi in Sector 39 police station. They have been booked under Section 379 (punishment for theft), 392 (punishment for robbery) , 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery ), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property ) and 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
