Gurugram: With a view to instil a sense of responsibility in children toward the environment, the Haryana School Shiksha Pariyojna Parishad (HSSPP) directed all the government run schools in the state to form youth and eco clubs.
The objective of the eco-club concept is to acquaint the children about the environmental issues. As per the directive, each eco-club will have 20-30 children interested in environmental issues.
The HSSPP has released a budget of Rs 16.11 crore for the youth and eco clubs in 14,353 schools in the state. Around 576 schools in Gurugram district will be allocated a budget of Rs. 61.80 lakh.
The government run primary schools will get Rs 5,000 while the elementary and higher secondary schools will get Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively as an annual assistance to maintain the eco-clubs.
The government will release funds to these youth and eco-clubs for organising seminars, debates, awareness programmes, rallies, plantation drives and field visits. The students will hold environmental activities every week in their respective schools.
With the establishment of the eco-clubs, the education department wants to instil environmental education based on life experiences which will bring lifelong attitudes, values and behaviour towards environment from early years of life.
As per the directive, it’s just one step in the right direction to slow many threats to the environment and to ensure the long-term health of our planet for generations to come.
This will bring children into direct contact with the environmental problems the society is facing and make them ponder over their solutions. It will involve children in action based programmes related to environment in their surroundings.
