Noida: The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday appointed senior police official Alok Singh, a 1995-batch IPS as Noida’s first police commissioner. Earlier, Singh was Inspector General (IG) Meerut (range).
In July 2019, he was transferred as IG Meerut from Kanpur in the same capacity and was promoted to Additional Director General (ADG) rank on January 1 this year.
The 51-year-old official was trained from the Centre of Excellence in Vicenza (Italy) in handling International Police intervention in disturbed societies. Singh, in his career spanning over two decades, has held position of in-charge at 10 districts in Uttar Pradesh with diverse socio-economic status.
As IG of Kanpur and Meerut, he ensured that public peace and communal harmony is maintained in the districts. He has been designated as a state resource person for Disaster management and trained in the incident command system.
Known as a team leader, Singh has led many troops and helped in operations against Naxalites. He won the prestigious President’s medal for his conspicuous gallantry and believed in intense use of technology in governance.
Singh belongs to Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. He was born in 1967. He holds a B.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics, Masters in Economics and MBA in marketing and finance.
Under his new appointment, more powers, including magisterial powers will be given to Singh and his subordinates.
In Noida, under the ADG rank official as commissioner, there will be two DIGs, five SPs, an SP-rank lady officer and an ASP rank official for traffic control.
