MCG Commissioner directs action against property tax defaulters

Gurugram: The Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) Vinay Pratap Singh on Monday directed the officials to take action against the big property tax defaulters.

The direction came at the review meeting wherein the MCG chief asked the officials to seal, attach and auction the properties of the property tax defaulters as per rules.

All the zonal taxation officers were directed to prepare a list of property tax defaulters whose dues are more than Rs 10 lakh.

There are 27 properties in Zone I, whose dues are more than Rs 20 lakh each, out of which 3 property owners have submitted property tax after giving notice.

There are 87 properties in Zone II and 66 properties in Zone III, out of which 10 have submitted the property tax. In addition, there are 73 properties in Zone IV.

According to the MCG officials, notices have been issued to these property owners and further action is being taken.

The MCG Commissioner asked the officials to promptly deal with property owners who have objections related to property tax and do not come under any kind of pressure while taking action against them.

As per the notification issued by the Haryana Government, the Municipal Corporation is giving the benefit of full interest waiver and 10 per cent rebate in the assets of the current financial year to those who pay their dues by January 31.

“Property owners, who have not paid their property tax, should avail this scheme before January 31,” he said.

“It is mandatory to deposit property tax for all types of buildings and vacant plots located in the municipal limits under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act-1994. In case of non-payment of property tax, 18 percent interest is levied every year and action will be taken against them by sealing their property and later it can be auctioned if they fail to deposit the tax,” he said.
