Gurugram: Rain and biting cold were no dampener for the spirit of celebration as Gurgrammers celebrated the festival of Lohri with great fun and fervour braving the weather conditions.

Lohri, a festival associated with the harvest, is celebrated in Punjab as well as the Delhi NCR with traditional zeal. The festival is of special signficance for the people living in Gurugram.

Several housing societies in Gurugram including Vatika City, Ardee City, Vatika India Next, Sare Homes, DLF New Town Heights-90, NBCC Green View, Vipul Lavanya, BPTP Park Serene, Corona Optus celebrated the occasion with community connect and cultural bonhomie.

In the evening, people gathered around the bonfire and performed rituals by throwing til, puffed rice and popcorns into the fire and prayed for prosperity and well-being of their loved ones.

Chaitali Mandotra, a resident of Ardee City, said that the celebration is all about connecting with people and celebrating it as one big family. “We have been celebrating Lohri  for the last 12 years with mutual amity and togetherness. Every festival in our society is celebrated with equal passion which helps in promoting healthy relationship among each other,” she said.

The residents were seen making merry by dancing and singing songs to celebrate the winter solstice in the most vibrant manner. They gorge on winter delicacies and shared food with each other to spread the warmth of the festival.
