Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gururgam (MCG) on Tuesday sealed nine commercial properties across the city for delayed payment of property tax. The total outstanding taxes on all these properties is around Rs. 5.40 crore.

The action came close on the heels of a directive of MCG Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh to officials to initiate action against the big property tax defaulters.

In Zone-4, the team led by Zonal Taxation Officer (ZTO) Dinesh Kumar sealed a building of Today Homes and Construction located in Sector 73 and Universal Business Park in Sector 66 which owed property tax of Rs 27.23 lakh and Rs 2.64 crore, respectively.

In Zone-1, ZTO Vijay Kapoor and his team took action against a Reliance property located at Sector 88 and SK Electricals in Basai which has an outstanding of Rs 47.42 lakh and Rs 59.30 lakh, respectively.

Similary, ZTO Devendra Kumar carried out action in Zone-2 against Renault Service at Old Delhi Road and Ansal Triangle in Palam Vihar which owed Rs. 39.79 lakh and Rs. 25.09 lakh, respectively.

ZTO Sameer Srivastava and his team in Zone-3 sealed three properties in Gwal Pahari and Ghata. These owners owed property tax worth Rs 26.35 lakh, Rs 24.55 lakh and Rs 27.72 lakh.

During a review meeting on Monday, the MCG Commissioner directed all the zonal taxation officers to prepare a list of big defaulters which owe more than Rs 20 lakh property tax to corporation and take action against them.

A total of 240 property owners are defaulting on payment of the property tax. As many as 24 such properties are in zone 1, 87 in zone 2, 56 in zone 3, and 73 properties in zone 4.

"It is mandatory to deposit property tax for all types of buildings and vacant plots located in the municipal limits under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act-1994. In case of nonpayment of property tax, 18 per cent interest is levied every year and action will be taken against them by sealing their property and later auctioned if they fail to deposit the tax," said an MCG official.
