Ghaziabad: Indirapuram police station may become the first police station in Ghaziabad to have a beat police officer. The state police administration is reviving the beat police system as a pilot project at 100 police stations across the state.
While speaking to the media, newly appointed SSP, Kalanidhi Naithani, said two police stations from Ghaziabad, Indirapuram and Masuri, will have the beat police officer.
The move to reintroduce the beat policing system has come after an advise from the first woman IPS officer and current Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi. She had given the 'beat' policing advice to the UP Police while addressing the 47th All India Police Science Congress held in Lucknow on December 2 last year.
Taking cue from her advice, the Uttar Pradesh Police decided to lay special emphasis on the 'beat' system in their policing plan. UP director general of police (DGP), OP Singh, had also issued a circular to all the district police chiefs to put special focus on the best policing system.
'Beat' is the territory and time that a police personnel is allotted to cover each aspect related to traditional policing, like maintaining a close relationship with community members to strengthen the police effectiveness and encourage cooperative efforts to make a safer community. Beat policing is also meant for better manual intelligence network to help in taking precautionary measures in case of any trouble in a particular police personnel's beat area.
