Shaheen Bagh protest started causing disquiet among commuters

Noida: Shaheen Bagh protest has become an eyesore for daily commuters to and from Noida. They are forced to take a longer route through the Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) Flyway as Kalindi Kunj road is blocked for nearly a month now due to the prolonged dharna.

It's 30 days since the Kalindi Kunj road was blocked in the wake of the anti-citizenship law protest. A huge South Delhi–Noida traffic diverted to parallel Madanpur Khadar-Agra Canal route to avoid traffic snarls on the DND Flyway and Ashram. Residents of Sarita Vihar, New Friends Colony and other localities have to travel extra 1.5 km to reach their destinations.

Some of the areas, including Sarai Kale Khan, Sunlight Colony and Maharani Bagh among others have witnessed major traffic jams compelling commuters to take internal lanes for short cut causing grid-lock and longer traffic snarl.

The Yamuna Expressway and Greater Noida Highway have also been affected from this continuous traffic congestion.

The extra lanes that are not operational cause more congestion with the traffic merging at the exit

Citing the aforementioned problem, Vishnu Saini of Progressive Community Forum (PCF) on Monday wrote to Noida Traffic Cell suggested blockade of the unused gates of the toll plaza to provide a temporary solution to the heavy traffic on the DND Flyway. A heavy rush can be seen on the DND Flyway during peak hours as the six-lane highway narrows down to two-lane at the entry point from Delhi to Noida.

In a letter, the PCF stated that the DND traffic jam is created by the 'funnel effect' where people have to line up at the side entries of the open toll gate after accumulating at the extra lanes causing back-up and zing zag driving further delaying the traffic which otherwise would have been orderly.

The PCF suggested promotion of lane driving to manage the traffic, Hence, permanent blockade of the extra lane road is advisable.
