MCG blacklists contractor for drawing payment without work

Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has blacklisted a contractor for irregularities and getting payment without carrying out work in the green belt project from Bristol Chowk to Khushbu Chowk in Ward 34.

The MCG Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh has taken the action after completion of the investigation.

Additional commissioner and head of Vigilance Wing Amardeep Jain issued orders on Monday to blacklist the contractor Jai Singh.

The contractor was paid Rs 35.35 lakh for the construction of 1.7 km track in green belt between Bristol Chowk and Khushbu Chowk along Gurugram-Faridabad road.

In the order issued by the additional commissioner, it was mentioned that in view of the inquiry report submitted by Joint Commisioner-3, irregularities were found in the work of green belt project and fraudulent payment was processed without carrying out the work.

“In view of this, the concerned contractor is blacklisted from the MCG enlistment of contractorship.” read the order.

Municipal Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said that the matter of irregularities and payment without completing the work has been taken seriously.

“Such cases will not be tolerated under any circumstances and stern action will be taken under the policy of zero tolerance. Action will be taken against other officers as per rules,” he said.

In this case, MCG has already suspended its Junior Engineer while other officers have been issued show-cause notices.

The matter had come to light two weeks ago when local Councillor RS Rathee wrote a letter to the MCG Commissioner demanding an inquiry over fraudulent payment of Rs 35.35 lakh without carrying out any work in the 1.7 km track in Ward 34.
