Noida: Office bearers of Janshakti Sewa Samiti, a socially active citizens group on Wednesday celebrated Makar Sankranti with inhabitants of old age home in Sector 55, Noida. They donated shoes and slippers among those in need.

Ravi Kant Mishra, chairman of the group said that it is believed that this festival is for extending support and donation. Keeping this in mind, the group has decided to do something for senior citizens residing at the only old age home in the city.

Mishra said that they have also donated food grains and stuff to the administration of old age home. He said that it is a religious belief that good days start from today on the earth.

He informed that this festival is celebrated for a month especially on the holy river banks in Allahabad, where Ganga, Yamuna and Sarswati merges. Devotees take a dip in the holy rivers. This continues till Maha Shivratri.

They spent time with senior citizens and interacted with them. People who were present on the occasion included A N Dhawan, chief patron of the group, Narendra Chopda, president, Nilima Mishra, secretary of the organisation operating old age home, Dr Deelip Dixit, Sanjeev Kaushik, Rajesh Awana, Sakshi Sharma, C P Sharma, Madhu Mehara, Rakhi, Shikha Jain, Gaurav, and Nilima Chaudhary.
