Noida: In a major accident, two cars rammed into each other at Sector 125 intersection on Thursday. Though no casualty was reported, both cars were severely damaged.

The accident took opposite Windsor IT park in the evening. As per the passersby, the intersection has no speed breaker due to which the cars over-speed and accidents have become common in the area.

A private vehicle rammed into the taxi, which was without any passenger when the incident took place. As per the on-lookers, it was both the parties' fault as they were both speeding on the intersection that already had a heavy rush.

Violation of traffic rules, congestion on roads due to vehicles and accidents is not new to Noida and have been major issues since the last five years. Going by the data, from January 2015 to October 31, 2019, around 4,933 road crashes were recorded out of which 2,026 people lost their lives and 3,811 suffered severe injuries.

As per the official data, till last October, nearly 964 road crashes were recorded killing 407 people and injuring another over 700.

As per the traffic police officials, there was a 239 per cent increase in challans in 2019 compared to 2018. In 2019, some 29,5852 people were issued challan for violating traffic norms in the district, while in 2018, the number of challans issued were 87,195.
