Mahagun Mansion, Ph I, Ghaziabad: To play or not to play

This Ghaziabad society has turned into a battleground of sorts, with residents divided on whether it is OK for adults to play cricket in the children's ground.

Mahagun Mansion, Ph I, Ghaziabad: To play or not to play

What happens when both kids and adults scramble for the same play area? Well, you have a serious battle on your hands. One such battle is being played out at Mahagun Mansion, Phase I, in Ghaziabad. Whether adults should be allowed to play in the area singled out for kids — and whether cricket should be allowed at all — are some of the questions that have split the society into factions.

Residents complain that the ground earmarked for kids’ play is being used by adults as well, that too till late in the night. This has turned into a source of disturbance for those who stay on the lower floors.

Though the residents have written to the AOA requesting for a solution, nothing has come of it. The letter mentions how the noise made by adults while playing, particularly in the late hours, has made life difficult for senior citizens and other ailing residents. Sometimes, the ball lands in a balcony and those playing make repeated calls to the flat owners asking them to return it, causing more trouble.

Many feel that different timings should be marked for different age groups, or that an age limit should be set for playing cricket on the society grounds. The AOA of the society had fenced off an area so kids could freely play there. But the problem has persisted and now turned into an uglier quarrel.

When City Spidey spoke to Shekhar Shrivastava, a board member of the AOA, he said the common area was open to all residents and that it would be unjust to bar anyone from using it. “The AOA prohibits games such as football, but cricket is allowed. I have requested the adults using the ground to not make too much noise and play grounded shots, so residents closer on the lower floors are not disturbed,” he said.
