How did Ghaziabad fare on its sixth car-free day?

Members of the RWA Federation Ghaziabad conducted the sixth car-free day in the city on Sunday, July 10. The event, that began at 3 pm and continued till 5 pm, covered various locations across Ghaziabad.

Colonel Tejendra Pal Tyagi, the chairman of RWA Federation, said that even a single car-free day every month could go a long way in curbing pollution in the city. “It is important that we don’t depend on cars for our daily commute,” he said. “The federation appealed to the citizens of Ghaziabad to make the 10th of every month a car-free day, doubling as maintenance day for vehicles. Doing so will not only increase the lifespan of the cars, but also reduce pollution.”

Members of the federation conducted drives at Atal Chowk in Vasundhara, Vijay Nagar, the Mohan Nagar intersection, Raj Nagar of Sector 10 and in front of Indirapuram’s Jaipuria Mall. They spread awareness of the benefits of a car-free day among car owners. The traffic police, too, assisted federation members in conducting the event.

Ajay Jain, general secretary of the federation, said that on the next car-free day, members would note down the numbers of vacant vehicles from intersections of all Ghaziabad zones, and then send letters about the car-free day to the owners.
