Social media follows parties on the campaign trail

New Delhi: In this digital age, social media plays a very important role in our day-to-day life. No wonder, in the ongoing Delhi Assembly elections, it has become a tool in the hands of political parties too. They share micro label political activities and communicate with the electorate in the city.

Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party with a large wing of social media campaigners, which had proved its mettle in 2015 Assembly elections, this year too has kicked off a campaign in the social media to woo voters in a big way.

The social media campaign took off much before the election date was announced with the now popular slogan, ‘Achhe Beete 5 sal, Lage Raho Kejriwal’.

To engage visitors to their social sites and twitter handle, the AAP, as also the Congress and the BJP are making every possible effort to make their social campaign attractive with catchy slogans and catch phrases while the party leaders are busy in door-to-door campaign.

AAP’s most used hashtags include “#LageRahoKejriwal”, “#KejriwalPhirSe” and “#AAPkecandidates” which promote the party’s leader and showcase its candidates but does not attack other parties.

BJP Delhi’s top hashtags are, “#JhoothiAAPSarkar”, “#AAPBurningDelhi” and “#DelhiWithBJP”. Out of these three hashtags, two are against the AAP accusing them of ‘lying’ and ‘burning’ Delhi and one portraying that Delhi is with the BJP.

Congress’ most used hashtags are, “#Congress Wali Delhi”, “#DelhiKiBaat” and “#BharatBachaoRally”.
