New Delhi: As the Delhi Assembly elections draw closer, so far, at least 1,029 candidates have filed nominations for 70 constituencies in the National Capital. The polling date has been fixed on February 8 and the counting will be done on February 11.
As per an official from the Delhi Chief Electotal Office, as many as 1,029 candidates, including 187 women, have filed a total of 1,528 nominations.
The Delhi Assembly election is a three-cornered fight between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC).
The AAP was the first to release the list of candidates for all the 70 constituencies in Delhi. The BJP had released its final list of candidates on Tuesday. They are contesting on 67 seats. However, the Congress has also announced its list of candidates for 67 seats.
As far as the allies are concerned, the BJP is not contesting the election with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) this time. They are contesting the election with JD(U) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). The remaining three seats have gone to the JD(U) and LJP.
The Congress party is contesting the elections with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). It is happening for the first time that the Congress party is going into elections with another party in the National Capital.
The model code of conduct had come into force right after the announcement by Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on January 6. As per information, the elections will be held amid tight security with deployment of 90,000 police personnel across 13,750 polling stations in the city.
Delhi Assembly Elections 2020 schedule:
- Election notification issued by Election Commission on January 14.
- Last date of filing nominations is January 21.
- Scritinty of nominations to be done on January 22.
- Last date to withdraw nominations is January 24.
- Voting to be done on February 8.
- Date for counting of votes was fixed on February 11.
- Term of present Delhi assembly will expire on February 22.
The voting will commence at 7 am and end at 6 pm on February 8.
Here is how you can check the names on the voter list:
Step 1: You can check the electoral roll published on January 6 on the Delhi's chief election office's official website — ceodelhi.gov.in.
Step 2: The voters can check their names in the list of rolls which was divided in two parts. The main roll has constituency-wise list of all voters in Delhi. The modification list has names of voters who had got their details corrected.
Step 3: After clicking on the rolls, you will be exposed to various part numbers.
Step 4: By clicking on the part number, you will get details like identification, location, year of revision etc.
Step 5: The page will also show location and photographs of the polling stations.
