New Delhi: After the week-long nomination process for Delhi Assembly elections ended on Tuesday, the candidature of as many as 411 contenders were rejected and three withdrawn from the race as of Thursday afternoon.

As per the set rules, the Election Commission initiated a scrutiny of the nominations forms submitted by each candidate on Wednesday. According to the Election Commission, 1,029 candidates filed 1,528 nominations for the 70 assembly constituencies.

The maximum candidates turned out to file their nomination on the last day (Tuesday). According to the EC, as many as 806 nominations were filed on last day, including that of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

These nominations also included cover candidates, fielded to ensure that a political party has a person to contest election in case its official candidate's papers were rejected during the scrutiny.

Friday (January 24) is the deadline for withdrawal of nominations.
