New Delhi: The Confederation of Medical Association of Asia and Oceania (CMAAO) chairman, Dr. KK Agarwal, has written a letter to Prime Minister of India to call for an inter-ministerial meet on coronavirus. The confederation pointed our that Indian public is confused and its time for Prime Minister Office (PMO) to make a statement.

Dr. Agarwal said, “We hereby request the Prime Minister office to set up an  inter-ministrial committee involving health ministry, civil aviation ministry, environment ministry, chemical and fertilisers ministry, tourism ministry, AYUSH Ministry, HRD Ministry, agriculture ministry, Ministry of Science and Technology, Women and Child Health, animal husbandry, law and justice, Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Home Ministry and other ministry.”

The committee may also include board members Indian Medical Association (IMA), CMAAO and other stake holders. 

The coronavirus which is believed to have originated last year in central Chinese city of Wuhan has spread to other neighbouring countries like Thailand, Singapore and North Korea.

The World Health Organisation has declared the coronavirus outbreak an emergency in China, but not yet a global health emergency. The virus has a potential of coming to India. 

Meanwhile, two people have come back to India from China and are  being monitored at a government hospital in Mumbai for possible exposure to the deadly new virus that has so far left 25 people dead and 830 infected.
