RESIDENT SPEAK: Transforming a dump yard into a garden

Dwarka: When we, Munish and I, along with Green Circle volunteers inspected the small green area on the rear side of Brahma Apartment two weeks ago, it was in a bad shape. Nearby societies had dumped their horticulture waste in this piece of neglected area.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) couldn't tell us as to who the owner of the land is.

We decided to clear the trash and last week, during our Saturday Shramdaan, we carried out the task. But we still we were not happy. We proposed conversion of the area into a nursery of plants. Everyone agreed to the plan.

Today, we started the work by laying a pathway so that the plants are not damaged.

Thanks to volunteers of Green Circle supported by Apeejay Dwarka Campus Students, Goonj, Robinhood Army and Brahma Apartment residents, we could make a beginning. We will continue every our good work Saturday after Saturday till this neglected area becomes a beautiful garden.
