Livid Ardee residents' ultimatum to MCG: Fix faulty road, or face protest

Gurugram: Residents of Ardee City of sector 52 are furious over faulty design of a road constructed by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) near Ardee Mall. A delegation of residents on Friday held a meeting with MCG official and demanded redesigning of the road.

According to the delegation, the MCG had raised the level of the said road from Ardee City No.2 towards Artemis Hospital by nine inches which causes flood-like situation with just a few minutes of rain. They alleged that despite several complaints on the issue no action has been taken by the authority to resolve their grievances.

They pointed out that their colony was at a lower level compared to the adjoining Wazirabad Village, Housing Board Colony and other nearby areas and the elevated road causes submergence of the colony in rainwater.

As per the residents, the MCG initiated the construction of the road in September last year, but it got delayed due a construction ban imposed by National Green Tribunal (NGT).

Chaitali Mandhotra, RWA member of Ardee City, said, “We were happy when the MCG initiated road construction in our area, but we had never imagined an ill-design road could create havoc in our life. We have noticed the problem in December when our colony submerged in rainwater as there was no outlet for the water.”

They said more than 15,000 residents are suffering due to the faulty design of the road and demanded its reconstruction at the earlier level. The residents have threatened to hold a protest if the authority did not rectify the fault.

They said after their complaints, the MCG official carried out a site survey and prepared the leveling report. However, till date, no work has been done to resolve the issue.

Praveen Yadav, Ardee City RWA President, said, “We have met the chief engineer of the MCG and demanded reconstruction of the stretch at the earlier so that no inconvenience is caused to the people residing in the colony. Even in few minutes of rain, our society gets flooded and it would further worsen the situation in the rainy season.”

Meanwhile, the MCG officials said they were aware of the issue and were working on it. Raman Sharma, Chief Engineer, MCG, said, “There is a proposal for the construction of storm water drain to resolve the issue of water-logging in the area. However, on the residents complaint, I have instructed the officials to check the level of road and submit a report. We would take action accordingly.”
