New Delhi: The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Wednesday carried a special drive against unauthorised parking in the area. The action was taken against vehicles parked in busy areas such as Geeta Colony. The campaign was carried out with the help of traffic police.
Commercial vehicles were also fined. Action was taken against loading and unloading during prohibited time.
Spokesperson of the corporation said, “We received a complaint about huge traffic jam in area due to vehicle parked at road side. We carried a special drive with the help of traffic police to clean the road. It was seen that many private vehicles were parked at DTC bus stand which was illegal.”
More than a dozen vehicles were seized in Geeta Colony. Commercial vehicles were also found violating the norms. The bus stop was occupied by private cars. The passengers were facing problems while getting off the bus at the bus stop.
The stretch connects the East Delhi to West Delhi. The main market of Gandhi Nagar is also known as readymade garment hub of the city.
As per officials, special instructions have been given by traffic police against the violation of parking rules which creates hurdles to commuters.
