New Delhi: To address the low voter turnout in many areas of Delhi during the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, special awareness campaigns have been planned in 30 Assembly constituencies to improve it during the upcoming Delhi elections. On Wednesday, voter awareness programmes were conducted in various locations of Badarpur Assembly constituency area.

Dr Ranbir Singh, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi, stated that the low voter turnout areas are intensively observed by his office and drives will be conducted to motivate the people of these areas to cast their vote in the forthcoming Legislative Assembly Elections 2020.

Special campaigns on EVM-VVPAT awareness were organized in MCD School at Phase 1, Gautampuri; MCD School in Phase 2, Gautampuri; and Government Senior Secondary School in Badarpur.

It is worthwhile to mention that a total of 1,39,196 voters out of 3,08,118 registered voters from Badarpur Assembly Constituency did not cast their votes during Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

The campaign was carried out with different themes like Badhayenge Loktantra Ki Shaan, EVM-VVPAT Se Voting Hai Bahut Asaan and Hamara Vote Hamara Abhiyan. The voters were familiarised with the functioning of EVM-VVPAT.

The voters were given demonstrations of the machine. The voters especially women and girl voters keenly participated in the demonstration process and cleared their doubts with the help of election officials.

The election team also informed the gathering about the facilities provided by the Chief Electoral Officer to the senior citizens. The banners containing voter awareness messages and other key information related to election were displayed during the campaign and various slogans were used to motivate the voters. A large gathering of audience witnessed the EVM-VVPAT awareness session at all the locations.
