Rishabh Cloud 9: Saraswati Puja celebrated as per two different cultures

Ghaziabad: This Saraswati Puja at Rishabh Cloud 9, a highrise in Indirapuram, was a cross-culture affair. On the occasion of Basant Panchami, Saraswati Puja was celebrated in two different ways with two different idols on Wednesday and Thursday.

“The two-day event was celebrated in traditional Bengali and North Indian style. Besides, the event was concluded with a community feast where meals were served to over 1,000 people,” said Sandeep Pandey, president of Apartment Owners Association (AOA) of the society.

The word binary was written all over during the event. Not just the customs and prayers were offered as per both the traditions, but even the idols of Goddess Saraswati were setup as per both the two cultures.

The day 1 started with prayers and offerings in Bengali style. The idol setup, on this day, was done in the way it is designed in West Bengal and Eastern parts of India. The joyous day ended with cultural programs performed by the residents.

The second day was all about North Indian culture and customs. The day started with offering Havan (a ritual) to the deity whose idol was set up in the way it is done in North Indian. The day ended with an organisation of a large community feast where over 1,000 people participated.

“We got a sense of contentment when we fed these people. While 300-400 people were from nearby societies, the rest came from nearby village and labour class. Our purpose was to feed as many underprivileged people as possible,” Pandey told to CitySpidey.

While everything was pleasant and heartwarming, one irresponsible act by the residents became a sore sight of the event. The plates and glasses used in the feast were made of paper, however, the rampant use plastic spoon with them was unpleasant to watch. The has huge ramifications on our environment. Pandey clarified this situation as a negligence on their part.

“It slipped from our mind. However, we will keep this in our mind from now on and will not repeat in future,” he said with an apologetic tone.
