Vipul Lavanya: Residents agitated over steep maintenance charge hike

Gurugram: Residents of Vipul Lavanya, a residential society located in Sector 81, are agitated over the sudden hike in maintenance charge by the builder. They alleged that the builder has increased the maintenance charge of the society without having any discussion and consent from them.

The builder has increased the maintenance charge of the housing society by Rs 1.49 per sq ft. Residents are opposing the move calling it unjust and arbitrary in nature and said that they will not pay the increased maintenance charge.

Shibashish Rudra, a resident of the society said, “There was no prior consultation with us by the builder. Earlier, we were paying maintenance charge of Rs 2.50 per sq ft. Suddenly, we were informed through an e-mail that it has been increased to Rs 3.99 per sq ft. We would not accept it. ”

They said that they had approached the builder several times but he remained deaf ear to their plea. They have written to department of town and country planning on the matter seeking its intervention to resolve the issue.

They alleged that the internal road of the society is in bad shape and incidents of lift malfunction are making the lives of more than 450 families difficult. They said that the security and house keeping staff were twice on strike recently, however, instead of working on providing better services to residents, the builder is constantly increasing the charge.

Sanjay Sanghvi, another resident of the society said, “We have been complaining about several discrepancies in the society but the builder has not done anything in this regard. We are deprived of the basic amenities such as better road and functional lifts. The services are not at par with standard and residents will not pay the increased amount in this situation.”

Meanwhile, DTCP official said that they would look into matter to resolve the issue.
