Gurugram: The department of women and child, Gurugram, organised a one-day seminar on Child Protection Act, POCSO Act and Juvenile Justice Act at John Hall on Friday.
On the occasion, the Director of Women and Child Development Department, Captain Manoj was the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Captain Manoj stressed on more awareness among the people about the POCSO Act, 2012 and Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 for child protection.
He called upon the principals and teachers from different schools of the district who were attending the seminar and said that the future of our country depends on the children. “It is important to build confidence in them, so that they can be part in the nation building,” he said.
He continued, “It is the responsibility of all the schools to provide children with a safe and protective environment in the school.”
He emphasised that it is not only the responsibility of the parents but teachers as well to ensure that every child are aware of their rights so that they do not fall prey to any form of exploitation.
Speaking about the POCSO Act, 2012, Sunaina, District Program Officer of Women and Child Development Department, Gurugram said that the Act provides protection from child sexual offenses from birth to 18 years of age.
She said that any victim can file a complaint in the District Child Protection Unit, Child Welfare Committee, Special Police Kishore Unit, local police and State Child Protection Rights Haryana.
Talking about the rights of children, she said that every child has the right to life, right to good food, clean water, cloth and roof. She said, “The Indian constitution has given every child right to freedom from exploitation, discrimination, protection from all forms of violence and they should be aware of their rights.”
