New Delhi: To help people during the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the SpiceJet has offered hundreds of free tickets to people who wish to fly to Delhi in order to vote. The base fare will be waived whereas other surcharges will be borne by the people.

The company said that the participants will be selected by the airline's internal panel. People, who wish to avail this facility, will have to do online registration. They will have to bear all applicable taxes, surcharges, levies and any other additional costs incurred on the air tickets.

The airline said that if the departure to Delhi and return is on the polling date, then the company will refund the base fares on both the tickets. In case, the journeys are on different dates, the company will refund the base fare on a one-way ticket. 

People can do online registration from January 31 to February 5. The shortlisted participants will be given confirmation on February 6 and then they will be provided a link to book their tickets.

Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, Ajay Singh talking to ET said, “Voting is a big part of democracy and unfortunately a lot of our working population who live away from their homes is unable to exercise this right.”

The airline said that people will be required to put their selfies with inked fingers after voting on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. They have been advised to use the hashtag #SpiceDemocracy.
