Dwarka: Saturday being the polling day for Delhi Assembly elections, community people here joined the celebration of democracy in a big way. People in large numbers could be seen lining up in front of polling booths to cast their votes.
People of all age groups above the statutory age of 18 years showed an unusual enthusiasm in exercising their right as citizens. Many among them, especially young voters, were also seen taking selfies with their mobile cameras displaying index finger marked with ballet ink.
Many voters accompanied their mothers to the booths. Be it first time voters or the seniors, all had an equal zeal to exercise their franchise, some with their parents, others with their children.

Padam Jain, a resident of Sector 13, went to cast his vote in the company of his wife and children at MRV School Sector 13. The family came to cast his vote all the way from far away Bhool, an isolated place in the Sub City.
“In the Lok Sabha I went for vote with my 94-year-old mother. This time, I cast my vote along with wife and children. Mother is not here. Otherwise, I would have taken her too to the polling booth,” said the patriarch proudly.
“All of us must exercise the basic democratic right,” he averred.
Senior citizens were seen on booths in pairs. They not only voted but also shared their photographs too to inspire others to vote.
Ravi Jaitely from Sector 7 Harsukh Apartments said, “We both went to vote early in the morning as this we feel this is the most important duty today in our schedule.”
Similarly, Suman Malik and Rani Malik from Youngster Apartments of Sector 6 went for voting together. Malik said, “We must use our democratic right. We have to strengthen the democracy and voting is the only way to do so.”
People from societies went for voting in groups.
Meanwhile, a traffic advisory has been issued by ACP/Dwarka for people residing or visiting Dwarka. The roads around IIIT, Sector 9, Sector 6 Govt School and the road in front of NSUT will remain closed from 5 pm till midnight to receive the polling material.
There will be movement of around 500 buses on roads around these three Reception Centers in Dwarka. Hence, commuters are advised to avoid these roads.
