Gurugram: To ensure utilisation of plastic waste in the construction of road in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has instructed its engineering wing to use plastic waste in bitumen roads constructed by the civic body.
The decision was taken by the MCG Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh in a meeting held with the officials of the engineering wing on Thursday. Following which, the Chief Engineer (Headquarters) has given direction to all the executive engineers on the same.
The engineers were instructed to use eight percent of plastic waste mixture in bitumen used for constructing road. The road manufacturing agency will have to take the plastic waste from the plastic shredding plant at Begumpur Khatola. The MCG has tied up with KK Plastic Waste Management which will provide the mixture at Rs 23 per kg.
The engineers were instructed to make the use of plastic waste mandatory while preparing estimate and tender for the roads made of bitumen. Also, they were asked to ensure the purchase of shredded plastic waste material. These orders have been implemented with immediate effect.
“All the executive engineers have been instructed to ensure compliance with the guidelines issued by the chief engineer regarding the condition of using shredded plastic mixture in tenders for bitumen roads,” said an MCG official.
“Also, before granting administrative approval, check whether the condition of use of plastic vest is included in the tenders,” he added.
