GMC to impose fine on owners of unregistered pets

Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to levy a fine from pet owners who fail to register their pets before the end March 2020.

There will be a grace period of two months. Once the grace period ends, defaulters will have to pay up the fine on per day basis in case of failure to register their pets within the set deadline.

The officials at GMC told CitySpidey that a penalty of Rs 500 will be imposed on the defaulting pet owners.

For the next financial year, 2020-21, the corporation will extend the period for the pet registration to April and May. However, if the they fail to register their pets in this period, a fine of Rs 500 and an additional penalty of Rs 50 per day will be imposed on the defaulters starting from June 1.

The officials said that teams will visit households to verify the registration of pets.

Earlier, the GMC had launched an online pet registration service on February 1 where pet owners can apply for the registration through a mobile application. The officials said that the service is becoming popular among the pet owners. "So far, we have received 3000 applications and have issued more than 30 registration certificates," said Dr Anuj Singh, veterinary officer of MCG

He also said that since the corporation has no data on number of pets in the city, the service has become a handy tool in the assessment of pet population in the city.
