Ghaziabad: An eight-month pregnant woman attacked by a pack of dogs at Shipra Krishna Vista, a residential condominium in Indirapuram on Monday. The woman was so badly injured in the attack that she was to be rushed to a private hospital soon after the attack.
The victim is still under treatment at a hospital. She received dog bites in her right leg.
The woman, identified as Suprabha Roy, lives in P Block of Shipra Krishna Vista with her family. On the fateful afternoon, she was on way to see a doctor when the incident happened.
According to the eyewitness account of the residents of the society, when the woman was exiting her building, around half a dozen dogs came from behind and waylaid her. Caught unawares by the sudden attack, she lost her balance and fell on the side ramp.
The residents who were present on the spot shooed the dogs away and helped Suprabha stand on her feet. Her husband was informed about the incident immediately she was rushed to a private hospital after his arrival.
The incident sparked outrage among the residents who are already grappling with the canine menace in the society. The residents called the police and lodged a complaint against a few residents associated with People For Animals, an animal welfare organisation. They are accused of intimidating the other residents who demand action against the strays.
The AOA officials told CitySpidey that the society has at least 35 stray dogs. The officials said that they have taken up the matter with the municipal corporation several times, but the corporation has not taken any action.
In the last four days, the society witnessed six incidents of dog bites. On Sunday, a seven-year-old girl was attacked by the stray dogs while she was playing in the park.
