Loud noises affect students preparing for board exams. Will new helpline help?

Ghaziabad: Half of the February has passed and students preparing for annual/board examinations have very little time left for preparations. They would be leaving no stone unturned to prepare themselves ahead of examinations. However, as it happens every year, the time of final board examinations have coincided with the wedding season.

It means that the students will have to endure the blaring sound of dhol, band and high decibel Bollywood party numbers from the DJ parties. It is a sort of hindrance for them as it would be difficult for them to concentrate on studies in such a scenario.

As this is a very genuine concerns of the students, the police have come forward with a solution. They have started a helpline number where students can complain about noise pollution.

After complaint, the police will reach the spot and take action against the persons creating loud noises and will also intervene to stop it. The service will start from February 15 and will be available till March 31. People can dial 112, the helpline number, to register their complaint about noise or one can also register complaint via WhatsApp at +91 7570000100.

The initiative was taken after directions from Director General of UP Police, Hitesh Chandra Awasthi. He said that the service was started with the motive to provide children a focused environment where they can prepare for their upcoming examinations with full concentration.

The parents, particularly mothers are quite elated and relieved after hearing this news. A resident of Raj Nagar Extension, Sonal Pahuja's second daughter is appearing for 12th board this year.

“Every time my children appear for boards, it feels like I'm also going to appear along with them. This is the level of care I have to take to provide them best of environment to put focus on studies,” she said.

However, one thing Sonal cannot control is the weddings and to her dismay, the area Raj Nagar Extension where she lives has 6 banquet halls. “I bear noise every day in this season. I can't stop them. The only measure I take is close all the windows and openings to block outside noise but it doesn't help a lot. Hope this helpline will help me now,” she added.

Meanwhile, Vikas Gupta, another resident of the area seemed to be sceptical with the level of impact this initiative would make in controlling noise. “I have very little faith that this helpline initiative will actually work. I don't think the police will stop dance and music in wedding processions over a complaint of noise. And moreover, will they (wedding guests) oblige. It is surely going to spoil their party. Let's see,” he commented.

Well, whether it works or not, our best wishes to all the students appearing for their exams next month.
