Minor fire, breathless guests; Park Hotel episode a hush-hush affair

New Delhi: A minor fire broke out in the basement of 'The Park' hotel in Delhi on Saturday. But what was surprising was that the hotel management informed the fire department and the police hours later.

As per the reports published in media, the fire incident was revealed only after three foreign guests in the hotel complained of breathlessness due to smoke following which they were rushed to a government hospital.

Later, it was disclosed that as many as 14 people were admitted to the Ganga Ram Hospital after complaining breathlessness. Except three, all have been discharged on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday morning around 9 am but the fire department received a call at 12:25 pm following which five fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

According to Delhi Police, "The smoke which emanated from the basement of the hotel engulfed the entire building which left the people gasping for breath. The hotel management without informing the police took the affected people to Ganga Ram hospital. After that someone called the police about the incident."

A senior police official said, "Connaught Place police are investigating the matter as to why the police and fire department were informed late about the fire incident."
