Street play for awareness about waste segregation

Delhi: Residents of Sector 51 on Sunday organised a street play in association with HCL Foundation, a private agency appointed by the Noida Industrial Development Authority, to create awareness in their residential pockets.

Sanjeev Kumar, general secretary of RWA, Sector 51, said it was noticed that the residents of his sector were not taking keen interest in segregating dry and wet waste before giving the garbage to a private agency, which provides door-to-door garbage collection in the city.

Keeping this issue in mind, an awareness programme was organised at the children's park of Sector 51. Professional artists staged the street play to encourage residents of the sector for active participation in waste disposal.

The programme covered the role of the Noida Authority in solid waste management (SWM) and door-to-door waste collection, residents' duties as  citizens of Noida and importance of waste segregation. The disadvantage of landfills, hazardous effects on groundwater pollution and health hazards of waste in surroundings were also told to the participants.
