New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, along with six members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), were sworn-in as cabinet ministers of the newly elected Delhi government on Sunday.

The oath-taking ceremony took place at the historical Ramleela grounds packed to its capacity by a cheering crowd including supporters and well-wishers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Kejriwal, who emerged a political leader from Anna Hazare led protest against corruption in 2011 at the same venue, catapulted to power with a strength of 29 MLAs in Delhi Vidhan Sabha for the first in 2014. In his third consecutive victory too, chose to take oath in the open in the presence of the city state’s public.

Kejriwal and his ministers’ oath-taking ceremony was also held at the same Ramlila Maidan on February 14, 2015. It’s the first time in the history of Delhi when the oath ceremony was held outside the Raj Niwas (Lieutenant Governor House).

On the reason for selecting the venue, an AAP MLA said, “We were supported by the people of Delhi. We, therefore, wanted to invite them to be present during the oath ceremony and it was possible to invite large number of people only at Ramleela Maidan.”

The six MLAs who were sworn-in as cabinet ministers along with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, are: Manish Sisodia, Gopal Rai, Satyendar Jain, Kailash Gehlot, Imran Hussain and Rajendra Pal Gautam.

After the oath ceremony, the chief minister addressed the gathering of around one lakh people and said, “This is the victory of every Delhiite, of every family. In the last five years, our only effort has been to bring happiness and relief to every Delhiite.”

Reacting to the freebies jibe raised emerged during the elections and accentuated by his critics after the elections, he said, “Some people say Kejriwal is giving everything for free. Nature has ensured every valuable thing in the world free, be it mother's love, father's blessings or Shravan Kumar's dedication. So, Kejriwal loves his people and hence this love is free.”
