Elegant Ville fire: Residents’ shocking revelation, society lacks safety system

Greater Noida: Although the minor fire happened at Elegant Ville, a highrise in Greater Noida’s Tech Zone – 4, on Monday was brought under control immediately and no casualty occurred, but the incident left varied questions on the efficacy of the management. 

It was indeed shocking to know that multi-storied society has not provided proper fire-fighting system. It has been around two years since around 80 families started living in three different towers. They have been devoid of basic facility such as fire extinguishers to avoid fire incidents. 

On top of it, the society has not even furnished the mandatory NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the fire department. The residents also informed that the developer has not acquired Completion Certificate (CC) from the Greater Noida Authority.

When CitySpidey spoke to a senior official with fire department in Greater Noida to know if the society has Fire NOC, the official replied, “As far as I know, Elegant Ville has not been given Fire NOC. We will investigate it and will issue a notice to its builder.”

A resident said that when the news of fire spread in the society, all residents living in Tower D were alerted and they were evacuated safely to ground floor. Residents swung into action immediately and brought down senior citizen and women with small children.

The residents of La Residentia, a neighborhood society, also came out in support of the residents of Elegant Ville so that any untoward incident could be avoided in future.

“Knowing that Elegant Ville has no fire extinguishers, the estate manager of my society (La Residentia) immediately asked the management team to bring fire extinguishers and then the fire was controlled,” said Sumil Jalota, a resident of La Residentia, who was an eyewitness of the fire.

It would be relevant to mention that, the residents of Elegant Ville had protested against poor upkeep of the society and demanded basic services including fire-fighting system.

A resident on condition of anonymity said, “The society is still under construction. Out of 6 towers, 3 are under construction, while 3 are operational where around 80 families are residing. The conflict among the multiple developers has put the lives of residents at stake.”
