Delhi CM plans meeting to translate 'ten guarantees' on the ground

New Delhi: The code of conduct was lifted in the National Capital with the formation of new government and allocation of portfolio of cabinet ministers on Monday. Now, the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called for action. As per the sources, the newly elected government is set to hold its first cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

In first cabinet meeting, the CM is likely to give emphasis on ‘ten guarantees’ which he promised during the Delhi Assembly elections campaign. Sources told, before the cabinet meeting, Kejriwal has called a meeting of top officials of the Delhi government to discuss its implementation.

Ten guarantee for the people of Delhi includes uninterrupted power supply, garbage free city, potable drinking water, safety of women etc.

Making a promise of making Delhi free from garbage would be a key issue and the people of Delhi would be curious to know as they have been waiting to see their residential colonies and roads neat and clean.

“It would be interesting to see how the government step forward in making people's dream true. Cleanliness of the city comes under the jurisdiction of municipal corporations and all three civic bodies are governed by the opposition. A coordination between MCD and Delhi government would be important on this matter,” said PD Bhatt, a resident of Mayur Vihar in East Delhi.

Providing uninterrupted power supply on 24x7 basis to all categories of power consumers would be a key announcement, as sources said. Earlier, the high electricity bills were a huge concern for all class of power consumers in the city. However, Kejriwal government, in its previous term, gave a big relief by providing electricity on subsidised rates.

BS Vohra, an activist, who had a long battle with Discoms (power distribution companies in Delhi), said, “Electricity is a basic need and undoubtedly, in fast few years, many changes have come. But, the government somehow failed in making a transparent system in this sector. Being a resident of Delhi, I would request the government to order CAG audit of all three power distribution companies which would set a platform of transparency in this sector.”

Other issues like potable piped water supply, education for every child, free bus ride scheme for different sections of society, healthcare facilities, safety of women and cleaning of Yamuna are included in the agenda of the meeting scheduled to be held on Wednesday.

“All secretaries and principal secretaries have been asked to attend the meeting to be chaired by the chief minister on Wednesday,” the sources aware with the development said.
