MCG delegation on a study tour to Indore, the cleanest city

Gurugram: A delegation of Municipal Corporation of Gururgam (MCG), on Tuesday, visited Indore, the city named the cleanest city in the country. The aim of the visit was to study the best practices adopted by the municipal corporation of the city.

The delegation led by Mayor Madhu Azad comprised MCG Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh, Additional Commissioner Amardeep Jain, Councilors, Mahesh Dayma, Ravindra Yadav, Seema Pahuja and Senior Sanitation Inspector Rishi Malik.

During the study tour, the delegation examined sanitation works being carried out by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) along with the development of the city. The officials of the IMC appraised them about how solid waste management works in Indore.

The team visited a solid waste management plant and a landfill site to learn more about their garbage segregation technique, waste disposal method and door-to-door waste collection.

As per their observation during the tour, the solid waste plant has been set up by Nepra Company at a cost of Rs 30 crore. It not only makes compost out of waste but also produces piped natural gas (PNG). The PNG is used in city buses plying in the city.

According to the IMC officials, earlier there used to be a mountain of garbage. It has now been turned into compost and PNG by effectively managing the waste. The IMC generates a revenue of around one-and-a-half crore rupees from the company annually.

It needs to be mentioned here that Indore ranked no.1 in cleanliness ranking for three consecutive years. Gurugram ranked 83 at the swatchhta survey.
