New Delhi: The public work department (PWD) is going to start a resurfing project for repairing pothole-ridden stretches in Delhi which will begin by the end of this month. The Rs 320-crore was ordered by the previous Delhi government.

Areas which are worst affected include Badarpur, Mathura Road, Ashram, Najafgarh and Raja Garden while the Rao Tula Ram Marg, IIT and Munirka flyovers have also developed huge potholes. Potholes result in many accidents which, sometimes, prove to be fatal.

A senior government official said that PWD would resurface all the roads which come under its jurisdiction by early April. The agency will first test the strength of the road by removing potholes and other obstructions before resurfacing it.

The areas with heavy traffic would be repaired first. PWD will start the work soon and complete a sizeable portion by mid-March. Apart, the damaged footpaths will be repaired.

Another government official said that the government wants to minimise the number of accidents hence decided to repair the roads. The official added that the government had received several complaints from commuters regarding potholes on roads which led to the compilation of a list of such stretches before the assembly elections.
