Ghaziabad: Registration of as many as 47 school buses can be canceled in the district. The vehicles are found unfit to ply on the roads by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Ghaziabad.

Last year, the RTO had sent notices to all 143 school buses which had not undergone a mandatory fitness test. The test is done annually to assess the fitness level of buses to ensure safely and road worthiness.

According to a survey, 96 buses have undergone the test and received the necessary fitness certificates. However, 47 have failed the test. The RTO has given a deadline for the owners of these vehicles till the end of February to comply with the norms.

Vishwajeet Singh, an RTO officer, told Cityspidey that notices have been sent to the management of the schools where those buses are operating. “After the end of the deadline, the RTO office would start canceling their (buses’) registration,” Singh added.

As per the RTO, there are 1,830 school buses registered in the district.
