Himgiri Apartments maids taught about solid waste management

Noida: On Saturday, resident welfare association (RWA) of Himgiri Apartments here Sector 34 organised an educational programme in waste management for the domestic maids working in the society.

The event focused on the segregation of kitchen waste as a drive for solid waste management awareness. HCL Foundation was the official partner of the event.

Keeping in mind the requirement of modern urban setup where working couples are a la mode and houses are mostly attended by the maids, it’s important that the maids are educated about the benefits of solid waste management.

SK Singhal, president of the RWA told CitySpidey, "If we want to contribute towards the betterment of our environment, then we need to start from the grass-roots level. Segregation of waste is the basic and the easiest thing an individual can do to protect the environment."

He also mentioned that maids are an important stakeholder of the waste management chain as they are the ones who are taking care of collecting and dumping the kitchen and other waste from the household. So, they needed to be cognizant of the waste segregation at the source.

On that occasion, the RWA and HCL Foundation also gifted steel lunch boxes to the maids who attended the training programme.
