Dwarka: Kashmiri youth detained by police for questioning

In an incident on Sunday afternoon, a 25-year-old Kashmiri youth was detained by police for protesting and raising his voice for the situation in Kashmir. According to sources, the Gurgaon Sector 13 resident Amir Amin, was allegedly raising slogans “stop harassing Kashmiris” near Dwarka's Sector 10 Metro Station. Amin was in Dwarka to meet a friend.

The youth underwent hours of interrogation by police and intelligence agencies after a passerby had found his activities suspicious and reported the PCR. According to the Police, he was released late in the evening after he was found to have no suspicious links.

Police said that the Amin identified himself as a resident of Kashmir's Shopian district. He was carrying banners in his hand with messages such as – “we want justice” and some others, opposing the ongoing operations by the security forces in Kashmir. When some of the locals tried to stop him from doing so, a heated argument ensued, followed by a scuffle, during which his banner was torn, police said.

According to a senior police official, a PCR call was received reporting a man abetting a terrorist. A police team reached the spot and brought him to the police station, after which he was jointly questioned by the security agencies and the police.

Residents of the area informed police that Amin also raised anti-army slogans opposing the ongoing operations in Kashmir. Police said that all the angles were probed into and the youth’s background was also checked. Police also approached Amin’s family and his colleagues and friends in Delhi to assert various angles. According to sources in the police, the youth was released late in the evening after nothing suspicious was found.
