Noida: The police here is expected to constitute an advisory committee on the traffic management in the city. The task of the committee would be to find ways to avoid confusion arising from diversion of traffic to different routes.
A decision was taken by Alok Singh, Commissioner of Police, Noida and Greater Noida, to this effect at a meeting with a delegation of residents on Monday at the his office.
The delegation, mainly comprising office bearers of the Confederation of NCR Residents Welfare Associations (CONRWA) and its members, demanded such an advisory committee for sharing valuable suggestions to streamline the traffic flow in the city.
The confederation told the commissioner that earlier there was a traffic advisory committee comprising officers from all the competent departments, experts and residents. The committee, they said operated for 14-15 years in the past.
Important decision for developing infrastructures and deployment of constables at road junctures for monitoring traffic flow was to be taken in consultation with it.
But this practice was discontinued for the past few years and flow of traffic was diverted to different routes without consultation with the residents and their bodies. As a result, they were forced to drive extra miles for covering the similar distances due to diversion of traffic. This was causing inconvenience to commuters.
Besides, it was resulting in increasing air pollution levels in the city.
P S Jain, president of the confederation, said that they handed a memorandum of demands to Singh and urged him to form the traffic advisory committee at the earliest.
Singh accepted the memorandum and immediately forwarded it to his deputy commissioner of police (traffic cell) for action. He appreciated the suggestions made through the memorandum and affirmed that the committee would be formed shortly.
Brig (retired) Ashok Haak, convener of the confederation, Noida Chapter, Praveen Agrawal, Vice-president, Rajendra Shukla, Alok Kasyap and others were part of residents' delegation.
