New Delhi: An incident of fire was reported from a tyre market in Northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar on Tuesday. Rescue efforts, though obstructed initially, carried out successfully with fire tenders engaged in dousing the blaze.

On their way to the site of the fire, the fire tenders were stuck in Jafrabad, where clashes between two groups, in favour of and against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), are going on.

According to a fire department official, a call regarding the blaze was received around 8.30 am after which 15 tenders rushed to the spot. 

Several shops were destroyed in the fire, said the official. He added that it was brought under control at 11.40 am. 

The fire department had received 45 calls regarding fire from Sunday till 3 am on Monday. 

Seven people, including a Delhi Police head constable, were killed in Monday's violence between the pro- and anti-CAA groups at Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Chandbagh, Khureji Khas and Bhajanpura.
