Gurugram: A newly formed committee headed by Divisional Commissioner Ashok Sangwan on Wednesday held its first meeting to discuss on revamping a piece of land along the Najafgarh drain which remains waterlogged for entire year.
In January this year, the State Wetland Authority, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, constituted the committee to look into all aspects of the project before making recommendations to the authority whether the land could be developed as a wetland or a lake.
Members of the committee included Deputy Commissioner Amit Khatri, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh, Superintendent Engineer of Irrigation Department Shiv Singh Rawat, District Development and Panchayat Officer Narendra Sarwan along with chief wildlife warden.
Officials of district, town and country (DTP) planning department are also its members while Additional Deputy Commissioner Prashant Panwar has been designated as member secretary of the committee.
Presiding over the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner directed the officers to prepare a detailed report about the land.
“All the facts related to this land need to be studied so that the committee can proceed in a planned way and take a decision. Every department should give a report pertaining to its role and suggest how this land can be used in a more better way. Issues need to be framed properly so that each and every aspect is covered,” he said.
Sangwan also told the concerned officers to gather information related to historical and geographical aspects of the drain and its surrounding area. Suggestions from all stakeholders, owners of the land, copy of the decisions of various forums on this issue, master development plan of the area prepared by the Town and Country Planning Department and agricultural and allied activities carried out in that area.
The hydrology department has been asked to test the quality of water accumulated there.
In the meeting, Superintendent Engineer of Irrigation Department Shiv Singh Rawat apprised the Divisional Commissioner about several other important facts related to the Najafgarh drain and its surrounding area.
