Umeed Marg becomes apple of discord; both parties refuse to budge

Gurugram: Following the protest by the residents of Sushant Lok 1, DLF Phase IV, and several other condominiums demanding unrestricted access of the Umeed Marg on Sunday, the residents living along the road held a meeting with the police on Wednesday urged them to regulate traffic movement in the vicinity.

The Umeed Marg is a 12-meter wide road of Sushant Lok 1 which connects the Sushant Lok 1 and DLF Phase IV to MG Road Metro station. Unrestricted access to this road has become bone of contention between the residents who owns properties on this road and the residents living in the neighbourhood housing societies.

The residents of Umeed Marg have given a memorandum to police complaining about the traffic management outside the A block as movement of heavy vehicles is witnessed from all the direction.

They have also requested not to remove the speed breaker in the area as this would jeopardise their safety. They also raised the issue of unauthorised parking in the area and requested them to open the access to service road in front of the Beverly Park-1.

DV Sharma, a resident said, “This is an internal road which is not meant to take entire traffic load of the area. It is neither a sector road or a highway and cannot be used as the shortcut when their destination is other than A block of Sushant Lok 1.”

“People have residential houses on this street and cannot even venture out their home due to non stop traffic movement on this road. We have invested our hard earned money to live peacefully not for uncontrolled traffic mess,” Sharma bemoaned.

Another resident on the condition of not to be named said that they have got the permission to install gates to ensure the safety and security in the area as several incidents of chain snatching, burglary and even murder have been reported from the area. “Gates are for the safety of the residents and not to harass people. There are several incidents which happened in the past. We need to check movement of vehicle to ensure security of the area,” a resident said.

Meanwhile, SHO of Sector 29 police station said that they are aware of the concern and would call a meeting with both the sides to find a amicable solution in the matter.
