Noida: Twenty-two builders were issued challans of Rs 5 lakh each by Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) for violation of the guidelines it laid down recently.

Taking cognizance of the violations, officials of the UPPCB screened 20 highrise societies in Noida along with Infosys Noida campus in Sector 6, Oxygen Bussiness Park in Sector 144 and Wave City Center in Sector 32 for violation of its guidelines. Penalties worth Rs 1.15 crore have been imposed on the 23 entities.

Six societies of 7x Sectors (from 74 to 79) have been penalised with Rs 5 lakh each. Two societies of Ajnara builders in Sector 134 and 79 were challanned along with that of other prominent builders like Supertech, Gulshan, ATS and Golf Greens.

Last year, the board recovered a penalty of Rs 2.09 crore in 390 cases of violation of pollution norms it dealt with.

In reply to an RTI query, the Central Pollution Control Board of India (CPCB) said it issued challans worth over Rs 14 lakh from November 2018 to February this year based on the action taken report (ATR) submitted to it by the Noida Authority. 

The authority had forwarded 46 complaints of violation of air pollution norms via social media. 22 builders were issued challans worth Rs 1.10 crore for the violation by the UPPCB.
